Romsey’s mayor and the president of Romsey Rotary Test will battle it out in inflatable sumo suits (like those pictured right) for the right to crown this year’s carnival Queen.
The victor out of mayor John Ray and new rotary president,Graham Lee will place the carnival crown on the head of Claire Anderson.
The contest is one of the highpoints of Romsey Town Mayor’s Picnic in the War Memorial Park on July 5.
The picnic organised by the Rotary Club, begins at 12.40pm, and also features the traditional Duck Race and a field gun race involving Romsey Scouts.
Music will be supplied by the Mountbatten School Big Band, Romsmey School Jazz Band and the Old Cadets.
There will also be a bouncy castle, the popular Hunka Dunka Drencha Wencha (a 21st century version of the ducking stool), Trigger the Train and a variety of games and sideshows.
The event gives community groups and charities the chance to promote their activities with a stall. Some pitches are still available – for more information call Tony Trowsdale on 01794 514421 or e-mail t.trowsdale@btinternet.com.
