SIR — In further response to Mr Smith (Chronicle letters, May 7), his initial letter implied that nothing was being done to combat various issues within the city centre. This is inaccurate as I illustrated by use of facts.
By the nature of his implication Mr Smith had no knowledge of these facts, hence my comments alluding to this.
I have made no suggestion that street begging, or any other issues, don’t exist within the city, and reiterate my initial response purely refuted Mr Smith’s inaccurate comments.
With the information at my disposal from numerous agencies throughout the city, I am therefore able to say with confidence that I have a fair appreciation of everyday reality, and do indeed walk the High Street at least twice, Monday to Friday.
I am also amongst many others who are labouring, at times in vain, to change this reality for the better, and therefore to suggest nothing is being done will of course “hit a nerve”.
I believe that open forums such as this page in the Hampshire Chronicle are invaluable for people to air their concerns and give opinion.
My opinion is that Mr Smith was right to highlight issues which affect us all, himself included.
He was right to ask the question, what is being done? But, to innacurately state that nothing is being done is unjust and unfair to many who care just as much about this fantastic city as he does.
I can only contact you through this forum Mr Smith. I can be found in Parchment Street Business Centre if you want to discuss ways in which we can alter our everyday reality.
