SIR — Living on a country lane which is mostly single lane with passing places, we are horrified at the stupidity of the introduction of speed limit signs now littering our countryside.
Thirty miles per hour is dangerously fast on a narrow lane with blind corners, yet signage is unlikely to deter the reckless speeders. And of course enforcement is impossible.
Then there are the obligatory de-restriction signs — this one at the start of a particularly narrow twisting road.
Yet we are told that we already have too many signs, and those that have genuine informative value — such as a sign on the main road indicating a turning to our village community shop and post office — is deemed illegal and removed.
Double standards it seems are just as much a part of local as well as national politics.
