A ROMSEY bookshop is marking 30 years since the death of one of the most famous Hampshire figures of the 20th century.
Lord Louis Mountbatten, who lived at Broadlands, was killed in an IRA bomb blast in 1979 and later buried at Romsey Abbey.
Now historical items relating to Lord Louis leader, including a framed photo and naval cap, have gone on display at Volumes Book Shop in Latimer Walk.
The store is also marking three decades since his death by featuring a new biography - Mountbatten of Burma: Captain of War, Guardian of Peace.
The book, penned by the late Vice-Admiral Sir Ian McGeogh, delves in to Mountbatten’s career as a naval officer and as Britain’s last Viceroy and Governor-General of India.
Volumes owner, Simon Hunter, said: “Lord Mountbatten’s legacy continues strong in Romsey and although it was 30 years ago he is still fondly remembered in the town. “I think the book will be a fantastic opportunity for people to look back at Lord Mountbatten’s life and also a great chance for people in Romsey to learn more about this important local figure.”
