MORE than 300 women from across Hampshire will be honoured today (May 7) at a service of thanksgiving in Winchester Cathedral for the Women’s Land Army and Timber Corps.
Civic chiefs want to recognise “The Forgotten Army” of women who served the country during the Second World War.
The Women's Land Army worked in agriculture and kept the nation fed while the Women’s Timber Corps toiled in the forests to provide wood for the war effort.
Lord Lieutenant Mrs Mary Fagan who together with Hampshire County Council is hosting the service, said: “It is a great opportunity for us to thank them for all that they did and for the great service they provided to Hampshire and the country as a whole during the Second World War and beyond.”
