A RETAILER has helped kick start fundraising for a new football team in a Hampshire village.
Wellow Food Market has donated £400 to the village's recently former Youth Football Club to help pay for kit and equipment.
The fundraiser was organised as part of the "Make a Difference - Locally" venture, which encourages independent retailers to raise money for their communities.
Shop manager Darren Whitcher, said: "We decided to support the local youth football team as we felt it was important for the areas' children to have the opportunity to play sport in an encouraging club atmosphere where their talent is nurtured and given support."
Tim Cater, chairman of Wellow Youth Football Club added: "The money that we receive will be used to develop the facilities to promote youth football in our village.
"We currently run three teams and are looking to expand the number of teams over the coming years. At the moment we are looking to strengthen our squads for next season at the under 10, under 12 and under 14 age groups, and hope to find new players at the under 8, under 9 and under 16 levels."
