WINCHESTER health bosses have hit all its Government targets for the first time in years.
Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare NHS Trust has succeeded in all benchmarks for clinical performance, for the first time since 2003 The trust has also fared well financially and is awaiting confirmation that it has broken even for the third year running.
Chief Executive Martin Wakeley said: “The whole organisation has been right behind the trust board in its drive to put patients at the heart of our business. Our fantastic results are proof of that.
“The results demonstrate that the action we are taking to eliminate hospital acquired infection and cut waiting times is paying off. Our infection rates are now some of the lowest in the country. It is particularly impressive that we been able to make such important improvements whilst not increasing our bed numbers.
“I am pleased that we have hit the target around cancelled operations. This is something we have struggled with for some time and so it’s good to get this under control. We do understand how disappointing and frustrating it is to be ready for surgery and then be postponed.
“None of our achievements would have been possible without the help of our staff, our many volunteers and many other people who have the success of our hospitals at their heart. Feedback from patients and GPs is very complimentary and whilst we still have some areas of weakness, such as booking appointments and car parking, we are working hard to find solutions.”
