A DUCK and her offspring had a lucky escape after fleeing across Winchester’s one-way system.

They had become agitated after getting trapped in a walled area behind the Hampshire Chronicle’s offices in St George’s Street.

A nearby resident spent around an hour trying to save the eleven ducklings and their mother, first putting a ramp up to the pavement, before finally rounding them up in a box and releasing them.

He then had to stop two lanes of traffic on Upper Brook Street as the family fled across the road – ironically at a pedestrian crossing – and off towards Sainsbury’s.
