In RAODS’s next production at the Plaza Theatre, After September, by Jimmy Chinn, the Gwendolyn Kyte School for Girls is threatened with closure when a government inspector arrives after receiving letters of complaint about the standards and conditions at the school.
Unqualified, unfit and eccentric staff are just some of the accusations levelled at the teachers arriving for the new term, who are already struggling to deal with a series of other mishaps and catastrophes.
Part of the school roof has fallen in, meaning that they now need to share already cramped quarters. With last term’s bills unpaid and no food arriving, tensions are heightened when the headmistress’s pet dog is found dead and hidden down the old school well. Who has betrayed them? Is one of them a murderer? And if the school is closed, where will they all go?
This gentle comedy, with just a touch of mystery, focuses on the relationships and fears of the staff at the school behind the times and unsure of their future.
Performances nightly from April 21-25, at 7.30 pm. Tickets from the Romsey Heritage and Visitor Centre, Church Street, on 01794 512987
