SHOPPERS will be able to have free cholesterol tests for a limited period at a Winchester supermarket.
Sainsbury’s at Badger Farm is making them available as part of a national scheme. The store aims to perform 75,000 free tests across Britain, which would normally cost £12 each.
The supermarket said research showed that 60 per cent of UK adults could have raised cholesterol, which can trigger heart problems.
Richard Morris, who manages the Badger Farm store, said: “It’s frightening to think that so many local people could be at risk from raised cholesterol.
“At Sainsbury’s we are committed to making a positive difference to the local community and we are delighted to team up with Flora pro.activ to offer cholesterol tests free of charge.
“We hope the tests will put customers’ minds at rest when it comes to their health and save them money when it comes to their pockets.”
Flora pro.activ is backing the scheme as the company says its products can lower cholesterol.
The free tests will be available until 75,000 have been carried out across Britain, when charging will apply.
