ROMSEY railway station is on track for a £270,000 cash injection to improve access .
Funding group Access for All has announced that £135,000 will be made available for ramp access on the north side of the station.
The grant will be matched by developer contributions, which have been set aside by Test Valley Borough Council.
The combined total will also help pay for improvements on the south side of the station so buses can drive right up to the entrance.
Members of the Three Rivers Community Rail Partnership, which works towards better station facilities, have welcomed news of the funding.
The group’s rail officer, Mark Miller, said: “We have commented in the past about the lack of access to the station for people with buggies and wheel chairs so we are tmhrilled to hear of the Access for All grant, which we think will make a vast difference.”
Test Valley Borough Council’s cabinet member for leisure and culture, Caroline Nokes, added: “This is very good news and it is something I have long been promoting.
“We need to make it as easy as we can for people to use the railway, especially to help people with mobility difficulties and I am so pleased we received this £135,000 grant from “Access for All” to make this enhancement of Romsey Railway station possible.”
