A MODERN twist on a Bible tale is set take place in the centre of Romsey tomorrow (Maundy Thursday).
Romsey MP Sandra Gidley, town mayor Karen Dunleavey, Romsey Abbey vicar Tim Sledge and the Bishop of Southampton will all be on their knees polishing shoes for free.
The event, in the Cornmarket, is to symbolise the Bible tale of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples.
Rev Sledge said: "All of us are in public service and take serving the community seriously. "Whilst we couldn't wash people's feet in the middle of the town what we can do is shine people's shoes as a sign of service.
"We are simply trying to place the ancient tradition of foot washing in a modern context.
"Local shoe shops have kindly provided some polish and brushes, so we are well stocked."
The event is taking place between 1pm and 2pm.
