BURGER-CRAVING citizens will now be able to get their fix as Five Guys has opened on Winchester High Street.

The American burger chain world famous for its smash burgers, seemingly bottomless fries and celebrity fans opened on Monday, December 2.

It was a soft launch without any ceremony, but the new staff and management immediately had a growing queue of customers on their hands.

The company was founded in Washington D. C., in 1986, by three brothers and has since taken the world by storm. It has 1,800 restaurants worldwide and 171 in the UK alone.

Five Guys has taken one of three units from the former Debenhams department store. The other two are Nando's which opened last month and Pizza Express.

Five Guys Winchester (Image: Charles Elliman) The new restaurant fills a niche in the city, where there are no other high-end burger chains, let alone on the High Street.

Outside the restaurant looks smart from the exterior to the interior the '50s American nostalgia is carried with the red and white design. You are reminded of the chain's accolades, with front pages printed from American newspapers, quotes lifted from critics and pictures of celebrities.
