CIVIC chiefs have refused plans for a house extension in North Baddesley refused by due to concerns it would make the building oppressive.

Rob Stafford, of Dibble Drive, applied to Test Valley Borough Council for permission to add a two-storey side extension to his house, forming a family room and new master bedroom.

The application also covered the installation of a Juliet balcony, as well as adding grey cladding to the front of the house.

Test Valley Borough Council’s Southern Area Planning Committee discussed the application on Tuesday, November 27, deciding to reject the plans.

Cllr John Parker said: “I am concerned about the impact on the street scene, and would like to see the external materials required to match the street scene.”

Cllr Celia Dowden said: “It will be really quite oppressive, I think. That Juliet balcony, I would like to suggest, the fact that it is a Juliet balcony means those doors can be opened, that’s the whole point of having it. Therefore, that means that if they are opened and people step forward, it’s a balcony and they will have a clear view over the area.”

“There is no way I can happily support that application.”

The committee voted to refuse the application.
