Winchester Round Table has announced its Christmas charity events programme, inviting the community to help those in need.

Following a successful bonfire and fireworks event, the group is urging people to support local charities during the festive period.

Throughout December, volunteers are planning several initiatives.

The 11th annual charity Santa Sleigh will be touring the streets with Santa, Mrs Claus, their elves and reindeer.

The 11th annual charity Santa Sleigh will be touring the streets of Winchester (Image: Winchester Round Table) They aim to spread Christmas cheer and raise funds for local causes, covering 21 routes across the city.

Information on the routes and the participating charities can be found at winchestersantasleigh.co.uk.

The Round Table will also package and deliver 100 Christmas parcels of food and toys to households nominated by city charities.

Tesco Winnall is collecting toys to be delivered to children in the Winchester Women’s Refuge.

Ocado has donated surplus Christmas food, which will be distributed to those most in need.

A collection point for charities will also be set up on Christmas Eve.

A spokesman from Winchester Round Table said: "Christmas is a magical time for many, but for some, that isn’t the case.

"Round Table are doing everything they can to support those most in need.

"After a record-breaking bonfire and fireworks event, Round Table is asking the city to continue their generosity by digging deep this December to support some of the wonderful local charities that aid those most in need over the festive period."
