A WINCHESTER man has been given a suspended sentence for assault.

Oakley Rafferty, 19, of Wavell Way, Stanmore, assaulted a woman occasioning her actual bodily harm, on September 19, 2023, a court heard.

Appearing at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court on September 30 this year, Rafferty pleaded guilty.

On Monday, November 25, magistrates gave him a six-month prison sentence, which has been suspended for 12 months.

A community order has also been put in place, requiring him to comply with any instructions of the responsible officer to attend appointments or to participate in any activity as required by the responsible officer up to a maximum of 20 days.

He must also complete 150 hours of unpaid work within 12 months. A restraining order has been filed, requiring Rafferty not to contact the victim either directly or indirectly - it is in place until November 24, 2026.

Rafferty must also pay a £154 victim surcharge, as well as £85 costs. The total amount of £239 must be paid in full by December 23.
