A new podcast has been released showcasing the unsung heroes of the art world.

The podcast, created by Rebecca Godden from Winchester, highlights the stories of those working across the creative industries, such as stage managers, costume designers, producers and actors.

The first episode, featuring Hampshire-based actor Yvonne Maxwell, debuted on November 18, with episodes every Monday.

Upcoming episodes will feature a local actor-puppeteer and creature performer whose work includes ‘Warhorse’, ‘Doctor Who’, and ‘Behind Her Eyes’.

A London-based creator and filmmaker whose work spans Netflix to the National Theatre and a Winchester-based international director, writer and producer for outdoor, indoor, and site-responsive performances.

Rebecca said: “I wanted to create a space where these incredible professionals could share their stories.

“I hope this podcast helps those within the industry feel a stronger sense of connection and inspires those outside the arts to discover and appreciate the amazing people and work happening behind the scenes.”

Rebecca graduated from Winchester University in 2013 with first-class honours in contemporary performance and returned to the area in 2021 after working as a multidisciplinary practitioner in London.

She currently works part-time as an associate director for a local theatre company while collaborating with organisations both nationally and internationally. Most recently she partnered with Hampshire Cultural Trust at Winchester’s Great Hall which delivered ‘ghost stories’ to the public during Halloween.

She said: “As someone in the industry, I deeply appreciate these people and the vital roles they play. This podcast was created for people in the arts to share the experiences, challenges, and moments that only fellow arts workers can truly understand. At the same time, I hope it offers those outside the industry a deeper understanding of what it’s like to pursue a career in the arts, especially today."

The first ‘Part of the Arts’ episode is now available on Spotify and other major podcast platforms.

Viewers can also follow @PartOfTheArtsPodcast on Instagram for updates, behind-the-scenes content, and future episodes.
