A WINCHESTER-BASED biking innovation company says it has the answer for anyone who has been plagued by annoying tyre changes.

Bicycle Innovations Ltd, which designs and manufactures its products in Hampshire, has invented the 'Smart Lever', which they hope will revolutionise tyre-changing.

Although it initially works like a standard tyre lever, the articulated hook rotates to give it more leverage during changes.

British inventor Mark Searles, whose other products include the Cytronex conversion kit, invented the new compact tool that makes 'light work' of fitting and removing tight bicycle tyres.

"Smart Lever finally solves the problem of fitting and removing tight bicycle tyres at the roadside" (Image: Smart Lever) Operations manager Samantha Price said: "It is revolutionary. All the cyclists who have sampled it so far have bought it."

Samantha said Mark came up with the invention after a 'bad experience' that left him struggling to replace a tyre one winter and caused him to be late for a meeting.

As well as products like Cytronex's C1 conversion kit, a lot of Mark's inventions are supposed to tackle barriers to cycling.

Samantha said: "Another barrier to cycling is people thinking, 'Oh no, I've got a puncture! This is the product for them."

Although Winchster-based with its products designed and manufactured in Hampshire, The Chronicle saw orders being packaged for Germany.

The product costs £22.50, which the company is keen to stress is a good price for how much help it will give cyclists, or anyone changing bike tyres.
