SNOW has struck the Winchester area, but people hoping for a white winter will be disappointed as temperatures look set to rise.
The city and surrounding area have seen their first and, possibly, last snowfall of the winter after flakes began dropping from Thursday's grey skies.
It comes as the UK is experiencing particularly cold weather this autumn and yellow weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued nationwide.
A cold start to Thursday, with clear skies for many, but a hard frost and icy surfaces in places 🥶

Winchester might not have received a white deluge, but nearby Swanmore has and pictures show the village covered in snow.
The Hunter Inn, in Swanmore, said: "A warm welcome awaits you all at the Hunter Inn. Hope to see you soon."
Ice warnings have been issued as far south as Southampton and as far west as Exeter but it is in the north of England and Scotland that the wintery weather has caused disruption.
Unlike the north of the country, however, the snow is a phenomenon that will not stay beyond tonight in Winchester.
According to the MetOffice, tomorrow will be, "Dry for most with sunny spells on Friday, but remaining cold."
Although there will be wintry showers in northern parts of the Winchester area, temperatures will rise to 5 degrees.
This weekend temperatures will rise even further, reaching 15 degrees on Sunday and there is a high chance of rain.
