In the years following the Second World War the military seems to have had a much higher profile in the city than today. There were hundreds of troops at Peninsula Barracks and places such as Bushfield Camp were still operational.
The Chronicle certainly gave time and resources to covering military events in the years just after the 1939-45 war when most men would have served in uniform of one kind or another.
The nursery photo is intriguing. The children in the phot would now be at least 70 years of age, if not older. Anyone who has any information please let us know.
Another striking photo is the one of the young woman making a bed underneath a large poster with a religious theme. Time and place unknown!
The photos have come from the Hampshire Cultural Trust which is caring for the photographic archive of the Hampshire Chronicle.
