FIVE Guys has been teasing Winchester's citizens for months, but it looks like there's light at the end of the tunnel for burger lovers.

The world-famous American burger chain will open on High Street in early December, according to workers at the site.

Planning for the restaurant was submitted by the self-proclaimed "Willy Wonka of Burger Craft" was submitted in March.

Five Guys will be open on Winchester High Street in early December (Image: Charles Elliman) The original planning statement said: "The application proposals seek to make minor alterations and the associated signage to the unit to facilitate the occupation of the unit by its ingoing operator(s)."

Although the actual opening date is yet to be disclosed, contractor Meridian is handing over the restaurant to Five Guys on Friday, November 22.

The company's website seems to confirm the Chroncile's information, stating the restaurant will be "open very soon."

Five Guys was opened in 1986 by three brothers in Washington D.C., but it has grown to have more than 1,800 stores worldwide.

In any given week, the company says, customers are given more than 260,000 peanuts and more than 165,000,000 burgers are cooked annually.
