As an automotive recycler based in Hampshire for almost 80 years, Silverlake has been processing the region’s vehicles for decades, minimising environmental harm and maximising the reuse of valuable parts and materials.

Under UK regulation, vehicles can only be dismantled at sites classified as an Authorised Treatment Facility, meeting strict environmental standards and monitored by the Environment Agency. This is because vehicles contain oils and substances that need to be properly managed for the environment.

Silverlake is the leading Authorised Treatment Facility in Hampshire and is proud to exceed set targets, recovering for re-use or facilitating the onward recycling of approximately 96.7% of all the vehicles it processes.

The work Silverlake does helps to prevent the region’s cars from ending up in landfills and contributes to the county’s efforts to reduce CO2 emissions in the journey to Net Zero. As an authorised facility, licensed to dismantle vehicles, it also provides the region’s motorists with options for safely and cost-effectively keeping their cars on the road through its provision of ‘reclaimed parts’. These parts, professionally dismantled, are quality checked, graded and sold with a warranty, and typically offer customers savings of up to 70% on RRP for new parts.

Silverlake’s site in Shedfield also has a U-Pick-It self-service yard where motorists can come and dismantle their parts from a range of 335 vehicles, which are updated weekly; generations of local families have used this facility and will continue to do so.  Silverlake’s Tyre Bay, which sells quality part-worn tyres recovered from vehicles, is further helping to keep motoring costs down. They are pressure tested to check their condition, and the prices are great value compared to new.

Of the 30,000 + vehicles Silverlake processes annually, 72% are depolluted and dismantled for reclaimed parts, and 28% are classified as roadworthy according to the Salvage Code, they are then re-marketed on the company’s auction.

These vehicles are sold for repair and re-use, reducing the carbon footprint of the vehicle by extending its life cycle.  The region’s motorists can benefit from the reduced auction price of purchasing the vehicle, use reclaimed parts in its repair and have it back on the road for a fraction of the price in the marketplace.

Silverlake has been operating at capacity for the last four years, processing over 30,000 vehicles a year.  Demand for the company’s services is increasing substantially across the region, and the transition from combustion engine cars (ICE) to Electric Vehicles (EVs) will drive further need.

Silverlake’s proposed expansion, which represents a significant investment into the region, will enable the company to process over 40,000 vehicles a year.  This means we will be able to offer thousands more green parts to our customers across the region. As well as making a huge impact on CO2 emission savings.
