THIS week we start a new feature that gives local history groups a chance to show off some of the best photos from their collections.
Rare and intriguing images often triggers new memories. We hope that readers will be able to fill out some of the stories, identify people not named and even unearth new photos.
This selection is from the archives of the Worthys Local History Group and covers the four villages alongside the upper Itchen – Headbourne, Kings, Abbots and Martyr.
Founded in 1982 by local enthusiasts the group has accumulated a huge collection of photos and documents that are accessible by members.
Most of them have been digitized and catalogued and provide rare insights into the life of the villages over the past century and more.
Many more photos can be seen in The Four Worthys, a book by Barry Shurlock and Tim Underwood, recently reprinted. Copies are available in P & G Wells, Oxley Book Alresford or direct from: wlhg.treasurer@gmail.com.
