I write this on the Saturday of the main Winchester Round Table fireworks night.
There have been fireworks exploding for much of the last seven nights, and I, and my usually happy, confident six-year-old cocker spaniel have had enough.
I know there is no likelihood of these big displays stopping in the future and I realise that they raise money for good causes and are enjoyed by many, including myself in the past.
However, these smaller but still very loud outbreaks of fireworks really do need to be controlled.
Not only should this happen for the sake of peaceful nights for residents and much loved pets, but frankly in sympathy and partnership with those in our world over these past months who have suffered so appallingly from explosions that are anything but fun, in particular families in Ukraine, Palestine, Lebanon and Israel.
