Swan Samba drummed their way into the hearts and minds of Winchester with a pop-up performance in front of the Arc.

People of all ages crowded around to see what the noise was, to their surprise there was a collection of talented samba fusion movement groups.

Cameras and dropped mouths were everywhere whilst the group moved in sync with Gary Munday's directions from his energic composing of the band.

The event, on Saturday, October 26, included their popular workshops that attracted many families to take part in the movement to the catchy beats.

Swan Samba not only parades outside of libraries but also does business team building, workshops and schools to engage in the community to support well-being.

They have also set up Drum for Health - a project that aims to highlight the benefits of drumming and movement for mental and physical health.

Gary said: “Drum for Health brings samba bands, artists, teachers and facilitators together, in areas like Warrenton, Leicester, Burley, New Zealand and the USA.”

He said the initiative was set up in response to the stories of the band members as well as positive feedback from the community.

However, he said that bands like Swan Samba are financially underfunded and he called for people to help.

He said: "We want to approach councils and any organisations, anyone that wants to help get the group's name out there.”

While many events are upcoming for Swan Samba like Winchester Bonfire Procession, Totton Lantern Parade and International Student Day, the band is looking towards the future - hopefully with more support.
