ALDI in Winchester is closing for an eight-day for a "makeover".

A sign has been put up in the supermarket's window detailing the closure, which will last from Wednesday, November 6 until Thursday, November 14.

The sign in the shopfront in Weeke says: "Don't look now, we're changing. This store will be closing for a makeover 6pm, Wed 6 November. Reopening 8am, Thur 14 November."

The refurbishment is part of Aldi's drive to update and develop its presence across the country with the German giant earmarking £17 million for the upkeep of its stores in 2022 in Hampshire alone.

Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi UK, said: “We want to make our great value groceries accessible to all, and to do that we need more stores, particularly in towns and areas that don’t have an Aldi already.

“The areas we’ve identified in our latest list are places where there is demand for stores and we are committed to continue investing until we can bring our quality products and unbeatable prices to as many people as possible.”

In other news, Aldi has launched a kids' painting competition to encourage people to recycle.

The competition is part of the supermarket's efforts to encourage sustainable shopping behaviours, which also includes reducing single-use plastic and increasing recycled content in packaging.

The initiative also aligns with Aldi, Team GB, and ParalympicsGB’s Get Set to Eat Fresh programme, aimed at inspiring young people aged five–14 years to develop an interest in healthy, sustainable food.

The competition is open during Recycle Week from October 14-20.
