JANE Austen is one of the most famous, universally well-known and admired authors.
Visitors to Winchester Cathedral, especially those from abroad, are in awe that she is entombed in the cathedral, a privilege secured by her two brothers.
Being able to visit the residence in College Street where she lived until she passed away on July 18, 1817, would certainly attract more visitors.
Further, a statue to be erected in Cathedral Close will greatly enhance her visibility and connection to Winchester.
