The future of our dying planet

Our planet is dying. Society is choosing to forget and becoming consumed by temporary means such as the media. This media fuels the need for over consumption and as a result our world and surrounding environment suffers. As a collective we seem to forget our beginning, our planet provides us with all we need and asks for nothing in return. The land in which we grow crops and create homes, the food and water we consume and even the air we breathe. All this is given yet we still choose to our own selfish needs.

How you can help and change your future, at home

However, this matter is not a lost cause and you are able to create change, this can be done very easily and conveniently. Reduce, reuse and recycle, this method is a great way to minimise over consumption and ensure that your waste is minimised. In the UK 70% of waste ends up in landfill sites which are definitely not environmentally friendly, this being because of the substantial amount of greenhouse gases that pollute the air. Another way you can reduce your carbon footprint at home is by shopping wisely, which means using a reusable shopping bag rather than continuously purchasing plastic bags. Plastic bags are one of the environment's biggest opponents and this is because they break down into toxic chemicals that contaminate waterways and the soil.

Conserving water

If we do not conserve water we risk stealing too much from our rivers and lakes which harms the environment greatly. Due to climate change the UK has been experiencing extreme weather like droughts which limit the water supply enormously and consequently water bills rise alongside. You can stop this and rather easily too, by doing these things;

Ways to conserve your water

Switching to showers. Baths use a lot more water than showers and so if you choose to switch to 4-5 minute showers you will not only be saving money but also the environment. Make sure you are turning off taps or there is a chance you could waste up to ten litres of water! Last but not least, the UK is well-known for its tea drinkers, try to only fill up the kettle as much as you need, this saves your energy too.
