WINCHESTER City Council says that it is working with the police to stamp down on illegal car meets.

This comes following a pair of car meets which started in Winchester Park and Ride car park five weeks apart.

The latest was on Sunday and the police have since seized eight cars and a motorcycle - a BMW 320, a BMW 120D, three BMW M3s, a BMW M4, a Jaguar XKR, a Nissan Skyline and a Honda CBR motorcycle.

A council spokesperson said: “Our car parks are monitored closely by our CCTV team at all times, and we liaise with the police and provide video evidence where nuisance occurs to support action if possible.”

As previously reported, more than 200 cars gathered in an illegal car meet on Sunday, October 27, meeting at Winchester Park and Ride carpark before travelling to Petersfield and finally congregating at Alton Retail Park on Mill Lane at around 10.30pm.

At the time police seized two vehicles of interest which were seen committing several offences.

A police spokesperson said: "Last night (Sunday, October 27) police responded to concerns raised by the public around a car meet of over 200 vehicles. A number of individuals associated with this were reported to be involved in dangerous and anti-social driving.

"The car meet began at Winchester Park & Ride just before 8.30pm, before the group dispersed and travelled towards the Petersfield area, finally congregating at Alton Retail Park on Mill Lane at around 10.30pm.

"Officers attended to engage with the group and were able to successfully disperse the group safely away from the area to prevent any further escalation.

"Two vehicles – a yellow BMW and a white BMW – were both seized as a result, following the drivers of those vehicles contravening previous warnings provided to them around the nature of their driving behaviour.
