YET more photos from the archives of the Hampshire Chronicle.
The vast photographic archives are held at the Hampshire Cultural Trust headquarters at Bar End and are available to the public.
These images capture the period after World War Two when millions of men returned home from service in uniform, when trains were powered by coal and farm work was hard physical graft.
Regular readers of this page will know that information about each photograph is usually scarce. we are sure proper records were kept at the time but they have been lost in the subsequent decades.
Any information is gratefully received. Perhaps someone in Stanmore will recognise a footballer in the match, as a father, brother, uncle. Contact us on 01962 861860 or email newsdesk@hampshire chronicle.co.uk
