A HAMPSHIRE country pub has closed as its landlords move on.

The publicans running The Hampshire Bowman, which lies between Bishop's Waltham and Droxford, had announced their intention to cease activity at the pub last month.

Now, in a Facebook post yesterday, October 28, they have announced its closure in spite of their previous hopes another tenant had been found for the building.

The Hampshire Bowman (Image: Google) In September, Mark and Chloe Newman told the Chronicle: “We are confident that Mr Scott has a buyer for the building and that they have potential tenants. We believe that the buyer wants The Hampshire Bowman to stay very much unchanged and that is why they are buying it – you're a shining knight!

“At the moment everything is in the hands of solicitors so there is still plenty of scope for it to all get screwed up! We also have to hope that the new government don’t create a hostile environment in the Autumn statement."

Mark and Chloe were set to shut up shop on October 14, but continued to trade until the weekend of October 26-27.

On October 14, the landlords posted: "There have been some delays in the transfer of The Hampshire Bowman (solicitors [exasperated emoji]) and so Mark and Chloe will be in residence (and open for drinks) for another week or so."

In their statement published on Facebook yesterday, the landlords said: "The Hampshire Bowman is closed until further notice. Unfortunately we don't feel in a position to comment any further.

"Our thanks to you all for your loyal custom over the decades."
