A PAIR of Ukrainian musicians have captivated a Winchester audience with an eclectic concert.

Soprano Kateryna Bolkunevych and pianist Liliya Solomonova performed on the evening of Saturday, October 26, marking World Opera Day with the second installment in their ongoing series of concerts in Winchester.

The programme, entitled From Mystical Lakes to the Fiery Streets of Seville, wove together works by Bizet, Saint-Saëns and Dvořák, along with a number of Ukrainian compositions.

The concert's setting was St Paul's Church in Fulflood, where the musicians also put on their first Winchester concert in July.

Liliya said: "We were happy to see a lot of children in the audience. We hope it will spark their interest in classical music and inspire them to explore it more.

"We hope to return around Christmas time, with a festive blend of seasonal favourites and classical masterpieces to close out the year."

The concert was sponsored by the Winchester Round Table Association.
