THE Dever Valley Local History Society is holding a talk on Wednesday, November 6. The talk will be given by local historian and green badge guide Pat Craze, and will discuss the impact D-Day had on Winchester and the surrounding district including the arrival of 26,000 men of the 9th Infantry Division,  United States Army in November 1943.

The talk will be at the Northbrook Hall, Duke Street, Micheldever, at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend, with tickets costing £5 each.

ONE last reminder that the South Wonston Fireworks display is taking place on Saturday, November 2. The show will be at the South Wonston Recreation Ground, with the gates opening at 5.30pm. It is free to attend, with a voluntary cash donation.

THE Dever Singer’s 40th anniversary Christmas Concert will take place on Sunday, December 8 at 6pm at St Margaret’s Church, South Wonston. A Christmas concert will then be performed by the group a week later at St Mary the Virgin Church, Micheldever, on Sunday, December 15, also starting at 6pm.

The concerts will have a retiring collection for church funds.

THE next First Sunday in the Month walk will take place on November 3.

The walkers will get the train from Micheldever Railway Station at 9.58am, with the walk starting properly at Shawford Railway Station at 10.30am. Walkers will travel south along the Itchen Way from the station to Bishopstoke, following parts of the Itchen Navigation and the Itchen River.

The walk will come to an end at Steam Town Brewery, a ten minute walk from the end of the Itchen Way. It is expected that walkers will reach the brewery at 1pm, with the option to sit for lunch or a pint. This month, the walk is raising money for Railway200: Micheldever Station 185. A MEETING to decide the future of the Half Moon and Spread Eagle pub in Micheldever will be held at Northbrook Hall on Friday, November 15 at 6pm. There is a questionnaire regarding the pub’s future that residents are invited to complete – it can be found on the Micheldever Villages website micheldevervillages.org. It must be completed before Thursday, October 31.

A REGISTERED nutritionist will be running workshops at The Gratton Pavilion in Sutton Scotney from Monday, November 4.

Running from 7pm to 8pm, the workshops, run by Emma Rickman, will help attendees understand their diet and lifestyle might influence sypmtons of menopause. This includes explaining the changes the body goes through and the potential impacts on long-term health, busting myths about what and what not to eat, and providing practical suggestions that may help manage peri-menopause and menopause symptoms. The sessions will cost £80 for four weeks.

A TALK exploring remote mountains in Spain will be held at Northbrook Hall, Micheldever on November 29 at 7.15pm. Presented by nature specialist Andy Tucker, the talk offers a breathtaking tour with spectacular photography of remote Spanish mountains and wilderness habitats and touches on conservation. Tickets cost £10 on the door.

THE next Holy Trinity Community Café will be at the Victoria Hall, Sutton Scotney on Wednesday, November 6. The café will be supporting the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, and will have a range of cakes on offer alongside tea and coffee. The café will be open from 9.30am to 12noon.
