Thousands of baby and children’s items were snapped up at an NCT sale.

On Sunday, October 13, the Winchester and district branch of the NCT held their most successful Nearly New Sale since restarting after the pandemic.

The sale, sponsored by Dybles Estate Agents, Baby Squids, Liz Knowles Women’s Health and Fitness Physio, The Breaker Collective, and 2Spots Ceramics, was held at Badger Farm Community Centre.

There were more than 5,000 baby and children’s items up for grabs.

More than 300 shoppers snapped up top-quality baby and children’s clothes, toys, and equipment, saving money on high-street prices, as well as shopping more sustainably.

Nearly £8,000 worth of items were sold, raising funds for the NCT.

The money raised will help to support parents both nationally and locally.

In Winchester, it will help to offer services such as Bumps and Babies and Walk and Talk groups, as well as the B.A.B.I.E.S, a breastfeeding service and Baby Bundles, which supports new parents in need by creating bundles of essential items.

Hundreds of people were involved in making the event a success, from the sellers who registered and the shoppers who queued patiently for bargains, to the small organising committee and the team of more than 30 volunteers who helped on the day to set up and run the sale.

Volunteers get early access to the sale and also benefit from reduced commission if they choose to register as a sellers.

Sarah Crisp, sale coordinator, said: "Our Nearly New Sales provide a much less stressful shopping experience than other secondhand children’s sales. The sale is set up as a department store, with pre-arranged categories; shoppers can follow signs to the items they’re interested in and pick whichever suits their budget and taste easily.

"In addition, all items for sale are stringently QC’d by our volunteers, so no items will be damaged, tatty or stained.

"We’re thrilled that so many people came to shop at our autumn sale, and hope that they spread the word to their friends and family to make our spring sale an even bigger event."

The next sale will be held on Sunday, May 11, from 1pm at Badger Farm Community Centre, Winchester.

NCT members will have early access to the sale at 12.45pm.

Volunteer registration is already open.
