A WINCHESTER volunteer has walked 330 miles to raise money for charity.

Kevin White, 64, a volunteer listener with Winchester Samaritans, started his walk in Plymouth on September 14 and reached Winchester on October 1.

During his journey, Mr White visited four other Samaritans branches, including Plymouth, Torquay, Weymouth, and Salisbury.

He started on Plymouth Hoe and followed the South West Coast Path to Poole, turning inland along the River Avon to Salisbury and then taking the Clarendon Way home to Winchester.

Mr White started volunteering with the Samaritans after one of his daughter's closest friends took her own life at the age of 17.

He said: "Being there without judgement for those who are struggling to reach out, by offering the simple human act of listening, is one of the most powerful things I can give back to the world."

Many donors and businesses in the area have generously contributed to Winchester Samaritans.

These include Seafare, Kingsworthy Foundry, Winchester Coffee Roasters, Elliotts, JCM Glazing, Remedi Health, and Revolution Physiotherapy.
