A choral society is inviting audiences to hear them perform a distinctive piece by a famous composer.
The Romsey Choral Society will perform Gioachino Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at Romsey Abbey on Saturday, November 9.
This rare performance will be directed by acclaimed conductor Richard Pearce.
Rossini, a composer born in 1792, is mainly known for his 39 operas, including The Barber of Seville and William Tell.
However, he also composed many songs, chamber music, piano pieces and sacred music.

His Petite Messe Solennelle was described by Rossini himself as his "one last little sin of his old age".
This piece was allegedly referred to by Napoleon III as "neither little, solemn nor particularly liturgical".
Despite this, Romsey Choral Society's performance promises to be dramatic and memorable.
The concert will feature the 80-strong Romsey Choral Society, made up of members from across Hampshire, alongside four young soloists.
These soloists are being supported by the Josephine Baker Trust, which supports the developing careers of young professional singers who are studying at the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

The accompaniment will be provided by a piano and a harmonium, the latter played by Romsey Abbey organist Richard McVeigh.
In his manuscript notes, Rossini questioned the nature of his Petite Messe, writing: "Dear God, there you have it, finished, this poor little mass.
"Is it really sacred music or is it damned music that I have created?
"Little technique, a little heart, that is all."
This concert offers a unique opportunity for attendees to engage with Rossini’s uncertainties and decide for themselves.
The performance is set to begin at 7.30pm.
Tickets are still available for the event and they can be bought online at ticketsource.co.uk/musicinromsey, through the Romsey Visitor Information Centre on 01794 512987, or on the door.
They are priced at £20/£12, with students eligible for half-price tickets.
