A LOOK back in time and another intriguing set of photographs.
Our favourite this week is the egg and spoon race on motorbikes. Who knew such a things ever happened. We have no further info although it looks like the late 1940s, judging by the demob style clothing. The third photo of the man climbing into a tyre hanging on a rope from a tree branch looks to be the same event.
No polo shirts and shorts for these postmen, but much more formal uniform, in a style worn by all public workers such as traffic wardens too well into the 1970s and 80s.
The outdoor meeting is a mystery. Is it a religious gathering or some sort of lecture? It looks like chalk downland so may be on St Catherine's Hill or somewhere similar.
Who is the man standing on a platform as teenage girls get onto a train. Is he a headteacher? Are the girls pupils at St Swithun's School?
If anyone knows please let us know by email on newsdesk@hampshirechronicle.co.uk or by calling 01962 861860 (choosing option1).
Another set of photos next week.
