A NEW cheese and wine lounge is coming to a busy Winchester street.

Margaux Lounge, a venue celebrating fine cheeses and wines from around the world, will open at the end of November at 33 Jewry Street.

The building is in the unit of the old Bangkok Bistro, which moved across the street into the former Prezzo site earlier this year, leaving the shop vacant.

The unit is owned by local property magnate Mohamed Bakhaty, who possesses a large number of buildings in the city centre.

Founded by friends Henry, Amanda, Alessio and Natasha, Margaux Lounge wants to bring a "luxurious yet welcoming" cheese and wine experience to the city, offering an "intimate setting for all who appreciate the finer things in life".

Margaux Lounge was conceived by the two couples, whose shared love for gourmet experiences has been cultivated over years of dining at some of the world’s best restaurants. This inspired them to create a space where guests can relax and enjoy high-quality cheese and wine in a warm, refined atmosphere.

One of the founders, Henry, said: “Our travels have given us a deep respect for the craftsmanship behind exceptional cheese and wine. We wanted to create a place where people can indulge in the best products, while also feeling at home in a warm, elegant setting.”

Margaux Lounge aims to become Winchester’s go-to destination for "those who appreciate both sophistication and comfort".

Featuring an expertly curated selection of artisanal cheeses from around the world and a thoughtfully chosen wine list, the group is committed to offering guests an exceptional experience.

“The ambience, the selection, and the overall experience have been carefully designed by all of us to ensure that every visit to Margaux feels truly special,” the group added.

In addition to being an ideal venue for casual gatherings and celebrations, Margaux also features a private dining room, “The Lounge,” perfect for business meetings or more exclusive dining experiences.

Set to open at the end of November 2024, Margaux is aimed at pre-theatre dining and other special occasions, thanks to its location on Jewry Street. Despite the lounge having over 50 covers, early reservations are encouraged to guarantee a spot.
