A BLACK-CLAD gang of e-bike riders has attacked a man in his 50s on a residential Winchester road.

Police have launched an appeal after several men in their 20s dressed in black clothes and wearing helmets beat the man up after he "confronted" them on Walpole Road in Stanmore.

During the assault, the man was punched in the face and pinned to the floor, sustaining bruising and scratches.

The incident happened just before 9pm on Friday, October 4.

"We were called at 8.59pm on Friday, October 4, to a report that a man had been assaulted by a group of people riding e-bikes in the Walpole Road area.

"The man, aged in his 50s, confronted the group and was then assaulted. The man was punched in the face and pinned to the floor before the group rode off.

"He sustained bruising and scratches and attended hospital for treatment.

"The suspects are described as being in their 20s, and were all wearing black clothing and wearing helmets.

"Since this incident was reported to us, officers have been carrying out various enquiries in the local area.

"We are now appealing to the public to come forward with any information that may help our enquiries."

PC Megan Wheeler said: “This was a nasty incident and we want to identify those responsible.

“We believe that there will be members of the local community with information that can help our investigation. If this is you, please come forward so that we can bring those responsible to justice.”
