HOMELESS charity The Winchester Beacon came together with more than 120 supporters to mark World Homeless Day and share news and plans from the charity.

Since being established in 1988, The Winchester Beacon has helped thousands of people to escape homelessness. The support of volunteers, donors and fundraisers is essential in the provision of this vital help to vulnerable people in the community.

During the evening, held at The Arc on October 10, chief executive Mark Wakeling thanked supporters and reflected on his first nine months in the role.

I have spent the last few months reaching out to our community and stakeholders as part of our strategy review, it is great to now see so many of those people here in one room. This evening is an opportunity for us to share with our supporters the difference that we have made together to the lives of our residents.”

Professor Nick Maguire, from the Centre for Homelessness Research and Practice, was the guest speaker at the event. He focused on the qualities and strategies we need when supporting people faced with homelessness.

The Winchester Beacon provides accommodation and tailored support to 22 people facing homelessness. Last year, the charity supported 53 people with an average stay of 146 nights.
