Comedian Miranda Hart secretly got married at a 1,000-year-old church in a Hampshire village, the Daily Mail has reported.

The 51-year-old recently revealed through her new book that she married a mystery man.

However, details of the wedding had been kept under wraps until now.

The ceremony is believed to have taken place at 4pm on July 6 at St Peter's and St Paul's Church, in Hambledon.

It was attended by only a few family members and close friends.

The vicar, Reverend Elizabeth Quinn, confirmed to MailOnline that "Miranda Hart did get married in St Peter's and St Paul's Church".

However, she refrained from sharing any more details, saying: "I am not going to discuss anything about it because Miranda has released everything she wants to be known about her marriage and her wedding in her book."

Miranda, known simply by her first name to fans, took great measures to keep her wedding plans a secret, including not posting her wedding banns and asking guests to avoid sharing details on social media.

Church counsellor Graham Parr explained: "Wedding banns were not published for Miranda Hart's wedding because she got a wedding licence. This is what happened with Miranda Hart's wedding. She got a marriage licence because she did not want the publicity."

Miranda's family is well-established in Hambledon, with her parents, retired Royal Navy Commander David Hart Dyke and mother Diana, having bought a house there seven years ago.

Miranda frequently visits the village from her west London home.

She met her husband, a building surveyor, when he came to fix a mould issue at her home.

Villagers who were not sworn to secrecy shared their experience of the day, with one saying: "The wedding was very wonderful. It was a few weeks ago.

"I could hear the church bells ringing. The people there were very happy."

However, other residents respected the family's privacy, with one saying: "Miranda is not from the village originally, but her family are well known and well liked. So, no one is going to talk about her wedding. It's family business."

The details of her wedding were revealed in her new book I Haven't Been Entirely Honest, which was published this week.

Miranda later shared more about her intimate, Hawaiian-themed wedding on the Graham Norton Show, which aired on Friday night.
