A MAN who was found guilty of driving while using a mobile phone has picked up six points on his licence and has to pay nearly £500.

Ricky Lee Hewlett, 31, of Kings Lane Cottages, Over Wallop, was found guilty of using a handheld mobile phone/device while driving a motor vehicle on a road - an endorsable offence.

The offence happened on December 2, 2023, when Hewlett drove a Vauxhall Vivaro van on the A303 in Furze Hedge, Salisbury.

Hewlett was driving while using a hand-held mobile telephone, contrary to regulation 110(1) of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, section 41D of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and Schedule 2 to the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence at a hearing on September 19.

Hewlett was found guilty on October 9, at Salisbury Law Courts and was ordered to pay costs of £400 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

He was given six points on his drivers licence and fined £60 and was also ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £24. A total of £484 in court costs.
