READING about the proposed demolition of the old RAOB club in Cross Keys Passage, which I read now has been rejected, brought back memories to me of when it used to be a sweet shop.

Every Saturday my brother and me used to go round with the money our gran gave us to buy our sweets and not forgetting our coupons from our ration book.

If we had any change we would buy faggots and peas from the shop which was also in Cross Keys Passage.

Every time I walk down Cross Keys I have to smile remembering those days and swear I can still smell those faggots and peas, or is it because I'm getting older, also if need be nip into Reg Albrough's and have a hair cut.
