SCORES of women - and a few men - gathered to hear expert opinion on hormones and their decline throughout life.

The evening was put on by Winchester health business Remedi Health at The Wessex Centre, in The Close on October 9.

It is part of a series of events that will be looking at hormonal health and the way hormonal shifts can significantly impact people's physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Guest speaker Professor Mike Baxter, an esteemed endocrinologist with a private practice at The Runnymede Hospital, opened the session and spoke to the audience about hormonal changes affect men as well as women.

She said: "Everyone of us is different and different in the way we present.  For some women it's ok to do nothing, but as long as that's coming from an educated place."

She said that the natural age of menopause in the UK is 51, however this can vary widely, with perimenopause symptoms happening many years before.

She spoke of the many benefits of hormone replacement therapies, but also promoted the need to make good lifestyle choices as well.

She said: "I am sure it will be a crime of our time when we look back that so many women were denied access to hormone treatments when they were going through such a traumatic time in their lives."
