PART of a Hampshire road will see a three-week closure next month for gas main replacement work.

The work is being carried out by SGN, and is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, November 13 to Wednesday, December 4

These works will involve the replacement of old metal gas pipes in London Road, which connects Winchester and the Worthies, with new plastic pipes so SGN can continue to supply gas to residents.

The closure will mean no through-vehicle access between the junctions for the duration of the work.

Access to Pudding Lane will be maintained on both sides of the closure – however, it will not be suitable for diverted traffic.

The diversion will take traffic onto the A34, A272 and A31 around the eastern edge of Winchester and through the city centre.

Bin collection dates are expected to remain unchanged, although bus routes will be impacted, with SGN advising residents to contact their service provider for updates regarding changes to bus routes and times.

In an email to residents, SGN said: “We appreciate this closure will be disruptive for road users and wider community, our engineers will be working as quickly and as safely as possible to complete these works without delay.  Specialist engineers will be working extended hours from 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday including Saturday’s wherever its possible within mandatory regulated fatigue hours.

“We’re sorry for the inconvenience we cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.”
