A NEW exercise and fitness area has been opened in Rownhams.

The new equipment is located in Boniface Park, Horns Drove, and was funded by the Nursling and Rownhams Parish Council using S106 funds. It was designed using suggestions from members of the public, who picked their favourite pieces of equipment to include.

The fitness area was opened on Tuesday, October 8, with the ribbon cut by Rownhams resident Emma Dawson and parish council chairman Cllr Phil Bundy.

Also present were Cllr Jo Lines and Cllr Graham Oriss, as well as representatives from Caloo, the company which installed the equipment.

Emma said: “I grew up in Rownhams since I was six years old. Following my divorce, I moved back to Rownhams to be close to my family and old friends who still live here.

“I feel there is such a lovely sense of community here and think I'm very lucky to live in such a safe and friendly village.

“While my daughter dances at the Horns Drove Community Centre and the Nursling and Rownhams Village Hall, I like to walk around the local area to get my steps in. I'm always met with welcoming smiles and chats with the locals. I will now combine my walks with some exercise on the new equipment. What a wonderful resource for the village.  There is nothing better than exercising among the greenery in the fresh air!

“Thank you for allowing me to open the equipment officially.  It was an honour!

“I hope everyone local can enjoy using it.”
