THE first weekend in October saw the return of Transition Town Romsey’s apple pressing weekend.

This annual event, which this year was held on Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6, is held to help people reduce their food waste.

This is done by turning their surplus apples and pears into juice and demonstrating the ways in which apples can be used to make cakes, jellies, and preserves.

The free event has grown in popularity over the last decade with some people returning year after year.  Despite wet weather on Sunday, both days saw lots of people using the press, eating cakes, and making bug houses.

The event also saw many people donating towards the costs of maintaining the community orchard at Whitenap.

A grant from the TVBC Councillor Community Grant Scheme has also enabled Transition Town Romsey to continue putting on local activities for a more sustainable town.

Transition Town Romsey also wanted to thank Anton and Maria for loaning their driveway to host the event.
