ONCE again Hampshire County Council are considering closing this much-used amenity and suggesting Eastleigh as a viable alternative. In this environmentally aware time surely this is detrimental as it would cause more pollution and an increase in “fly tipping”.
In the article in the Advertiser it stated there were 2.1 million bookings in the year 2022/23 and a loss of £1.7 million. It is not rocket science to calculate that a nominal charge of £1 per booking would easily cover the cost and may even make a profit.
You have to book a slot therefore a simple payment online is possible or a card reader used when you enter the site both methods used every day by the vast majority of us for numerous purchases.
Hampshire needs to STOP reducing services and look at ways that they can fund themselves.
Finally I would ask Caroline Nokes to put politics aside and join the Lib Dems to fight this closure with positive action.
