Students have completed their second art project in collaboration with Network Rail and artists.
Since 2022, the Romsey School has been working with Network Rail, South Western Railway, and the Romsey Train Station to raise awareness and improve rail safety.
To do this, students were given a brief to create artwork for the train station to encourage conversations around rail safety and improve the positive connections between the school and the community.
In the first project, students worked with mosaic artist Joanna Dewfall to create three mosaics to brighten the station underpass and encourage safe use of the route between platforms.

Following this, students then collaborated withThe concepts of these pieces were inspired by Romsey's nature and how people become more connected to landscapes and loved ones through use of the train services.
This work was well received by the public, prompting Network Rail to continue working with the Romsey School on this initiative.
The second project evolved into a cross-curricular art and science project, where students worked with natural and man-made objects found on the tracks and routes around the stations.

With these objects, students collaborated with University Hospital Southampton and The Colour Factory to take microscopic images, which they then used to create ‘portholes’ of fantasy worlds.
These will be installed at the Romsey Station in 2025.
The Romsey School also participated in rail safety activities such as tutor videos and year group assemblies.
In recognition of this ongoing work, Network Rail presented the school with a ‘Rail Safe Wessex’ award.
This achievement will be celebrated next year with the unveiling of the ‘porthole’ artwork and a second plaque showcasing the full 3-star rating of the school’s commitment to rail safety.
A spokeswoman for the school said: "Students at the Romsey School have reached the end of their second art project, collaborating with Network Rail and local professional artists.
"Since 2022, the Romsey School has been working with Network Rail, South Western Railway, and the Romsey Train Station to help raise awareness and improve rail safety.
