WINCHESTER'S motorists will have nine road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And one of them is expected to cause major delays – with drivers facing a wait of at least 30 minutes. Another two will cause moderate delays of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that three closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M27, from 8pm September 2 to 6am October 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M27 both directions, junction 9 to junction 10, slip road and lane closures for major improvement work.

• A303, from 8pm September 16 to 6am October 24, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A34 southbound, Bullington to Three Maids Hill, carriageway closure for resurfacing work.

• M27, from 6am September 10 to 6am December 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M27 both directions, junction 9 to junction 10, 24/7 lane closures for major improvement work.

And a further six closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• A27, from 8pm October 9 to 6am October 10, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A27 eastbound, Harts Farm to Langstone, slip road and lane closures for maintenance work.

• A3, from 9pm October 9 to 6am October 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A3 northbound, QE2, slip road and lane closures for maintenance work.

• M3, from 8pm October 11 to 6am October 23, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M3 northbound, junction 10 to junction 9, Lane closures for vegetation clearance.

• A27, from 8pm October 11 to 6am October 28, severe delays (more than 30 minutes): A3 southbound, Berelands to A3M, junction 2, carriageway closure for resurfacing work.

• M3, from 6am October 12 to 8pm October 22, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M3 northbound, junction 9, 24/7 hard shoulder closure for vegetation clearance.

• M3, from 8pm October 14 to 6am October 15, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M3 both directions, junction 12, exit slip road and Lane closures for Hampshire County Council works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
